Intel’s Medfield processor and new smartphone

new smartphoneIntel may have at CES 2012 its first smartphone and tablet. Until now, Intel has remained out of the mobile market, but now has decided to take the field with their products. The new smartphone will use the processor that ensures Medfield power and low power consumption. A first prototype was delivered to Technology Review and a number of manufacturers, in order to attract their attention, also, with this product, try to counter the dominance of ARM. The guys at Technology Review give us the first indications of this smartphone: the dimensions are very similar to iPhone 4 but much smaller, are based on Android Gingerbread and are able to stream TV-quality video on Blu-Ray.

Another interesting feature is the 8-megapixel camera; burst mode can capture 10 photos in full resolution in 0.66 seconds. In short, the new chip from Intel seems to have all the necessary requirements for space in the crowded market of smartphones and tablets, is fast and powerful, makes navigation very smooth, has a great ability to process images and video, and should ensure an excellent battery life. We therefore await the CES 2012 for more details and, above all, a release date, which still seems to be confirmed in the first half of next year.
