During the first day of Google I / O along with the long awaited SDK for Android 4.1 has been announced a new tool: the Platform Developer Kit (PDK). The Platform Developer Kit is a tool that was provided in advance to various companies, but do not let the “back” the number of terminals fitted with Android, a short version of the SDK but with a very specific function: to limit the fragmentation of Android.
The solution Google could really help the big companies that will update the various devices more easily and perhaps with better timing, just think of the update to ICS for Galaxy S II. In addition to the goodness of this Google initiative must consider the policy of many companies that maintain their own interests first and foremost.
The problem of fragmentation is one of the most important and annoying, not only for Google itself, but also for developers who need to adapt their applications to many versions of the OS. A Google solution will really and finally shelve this serious problem? We’ll see, the assumptions are all really, we just have to wait.
